NEWS & EVENTS

In the Spring of 2019, the Henderson County Clint W. Murchison Memorial Library was awarded a Texas Library Grant through the Texas Book Festival, a Festival that was started by former First Lady Laura Bush and Mary Margaret Farabee. The Texas Book Festival has been around for 24 years and serves to connect authors and readers through experiences that celebrate the culture of literacy, ideas, and imagination. Other notable Libraries have also received this grant such as the Corsicana Public Library, and the Palestine Public Library.
The Henderson County Library will use this grant to expand the Board book section for kids within the children's area, in doing so we will expand children's options for reading and their imagination as well.

Library Receives Accreditation for the First Time

Posted July 10, 2015

Something super special has happened to the library this month, for the first time since the library was established in 1972, it has received accreditation from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Library Director, Rachel Cox, appealed to the State to receive a reduced population due, in part, to the unique layout of Henderson County and the three other libraries that serve residents of our area. Pictured above are Nell Velvin, chair of the Public Library Fund; Kathie Schroeder, chair of the Library Advisory Board; Rachel Cox, Library Director; and Mark Smith, State Librarian.

The benefits of accreditation include access to shared databases throughout the state of Texas, access to the state interlibrary loan system and eligibilty for multiple grants awarded by the state each year.

Mayor's Reading Club a Success!

Posted July 10, 2015

We are pleased to announce that the first ever summer of the Mayor's Reading Club has been a huge success! More than 100 children have already turned in their reading logs and received new books to take home! Incredible! We've had a great time ordering fun books and watching as kids delight in choosing which one to keep. Thanks, parents, for bringing the kids back to the library time and again!
